Kia ora! We’re Rebecca Keil and Emily Writes and we’re stoked to introduce you to the new baby we’ve been working on for the last few months! Our podcast: The Mother Yarns.
The Mother Yarns podcast was born from the sold-out Just Fucking Doing It tour. We loved the korero we had with mamas around the country and we wanted to see if we could turn that into a podcast.
So far we’ve recorded episodes about the tour, our births, Rebecca’s pregnancy and we’ve interviewed some amazing mamas including Tess whose baby Rebecca birthed last year, a mama who is raising her baby with they/them pronouns, another mama who works in sexual health, and many many more mamas.
Our kaupapa as mamas and People Who Are Very Online is that our different stories don’t divide us, they can unite us. And more importantly, they can help us all in so many ways. They can help us be better mothers to all children, not just our own. And they can help us be kinder and patient with other mothers too. Understanding helps us all. When you understand why another mother feels the way she does – it’s almost impossible to feel so far away from her.
We teach our children empathy and kindness. We need to do the same for ourselves and each other. We need to reach out where we can and share our stories so we have common ground.
But also - parenting is hilarious. Let’s laugh our way through it. The Mother Yarns is a funny (hopefully), serious (often), and hopefully absolutely full of joy and ridiculousness. We really think you’ll like it. We really hope you’ll like it.
